From Saxtead an interesting circular tour would be to go through Tannington, Brundish, Worlingworth and Wilby en-route for Stradbroke. Out of Stradbroke take the B1117 to Laxfield, before returning via Badingham and Dennington.
Stradbroke is a somewhat sleepy village, at the centre of which is the magnificent All Saints parish church. Although only a village it has a High School, which draws on all the other parishes around for its intake. Again surprisingly, for such a relatively small community, there is a swimming pool and leisure centre near the bowling green , tennis courts and sports fields.
It is still essentially a farming area, with large tracts of arable crops, but also pig poultry and cattle enterprises are in evidence, many of them serviced by the local feed mill in the village.
Continuing on to Laxfield one is aware of just how rural this part of Suffolk is. As you enter the village past the war memorial, down the wide high street, you will eventually arrive at the church, shop, Guildhall, and Royal Oak pub. The ancient Guildhall built in the early 16 th century is now a museum, which is open to the public at the weekends from 2pm until 5pm from May to September. Try to find time to look in All Saints church. One is struck by its spaciousness, and casting your eyes upwards you will observe the unusual scissor-beam oak roof. A second public house, The Kings Head (known locally as the Low House) is to be found in Gorams Mill Lane , below the churchyard, and is little changed in a hundred years. Ale is collected from the taproom where the barrels are mounted, and is consumed in the bar area which still has its high backed Victorian seating.
